Local News in Brief : $5,000 Reward Offered in $100,000 School Fire
The Los Angeles Board of Education has posted a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the arsonist who set a fire at Olive Vista Junior High School, causing $100,000 in damage.
The May 10 fire, in a building housing a computer room, counseling center and administrative offices, destroyed the small counseling rooms. Principal Floyd Manning said the fire also threatened grade records of the school’s 1,600 students but that about 98% of the files were undamaged.
Flyers announcing the reward offer have been distributed in the neighborhood of the school. The school district has asked anyone with information on the fire to call the district or the Fire Department.
