The coach of the Soviet Union’s World Cup soccer team was angered when his players were questioned about the Chernobyl nuclear accident after arriving in Mexico City, site of the Cup tournament.

Dynamo Kiev, which won this year’s European Cup Winners Cup, is based only 75 miles from the Chernobyl plant, and two Dynamo players are on the World Cup team. Coach Valery Lobanovsky, who coached the Dynamo team and is now coaching the World Cup team, showed anger when asked if the two players were affected by the accident.

“I think that our government has already given out all facts to reporters about what really happened, after the campaign spread by the international press,” he said.
