Westwood : Hearing on High-Rise Suit
A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has scheduled a hearing for June 18 on a lawsuit in which the Friends of Westwood claim that the city of Los Angeles acted improperly in granting permits for a 16-story office building at Wilshire Boulevard and Glendon Avenue.
Friends spokesman Laura Lake said that members believe the case has citywide ramifications because it challenges the city’s practice of approving major projects without environmental review if they comply with zoning laws.
The suit, filed last week, claims that the Westwood Place project on the southeast corner of Wilshire and Glendon violates the area’s community plan and would overload Westwood’s already overburdened sewer and street systems. The suit asks that work be halted on the project until an environmental study is done.
Friends of Westwood also has filed suit against a 24-story office tower on the former Ship’s restaurant site at the northeast corner of Wilshire and Glendon.
Residents in the area have been active in protesting the office projects and a 14-story hotel they said will increase traffic congestion and threaten the ambiance of Westwood Village.
