Municipal Judge Bobby D. Youngblood, a candidate for county sheriff, has reported spending only $21,931, far less than incumbent Brad Gates, according to campaign finance reports.
In a report filed Friday, Youngblood lists $160,328 in contributions since Jan. 1, but $105,000 of it is in “pledges” to his campaign.
By contrast, Gates, who is seeking a fourth four-year term, reported spending $177,079 and raising $66,986 since the beginning of the year. None of Gates’ contributions are reported as pledges.
The third candidate in the race, Sheriff’s Sgt. Linda Lea Calligan, has reported spending $39,252 since January, but has raised only $9,358. Calligan also shows an outstanding debt of $30,408.
In another campaign finance report filed Friday, Anaheim Mayor Don Roth, a candidate for the vacant Fourth District Board of Supervisors’ seat, showed $110,011 in contributions and $252,531 in expenditures since the beginning of the year. But Roth also reported an outstanding debt of $86,936.
Two candidates opposing Roth filed their reports on Thursday. Former congressman Jerry M. Patterson spent $157,436 and Orange Mayor James H. Beam spent $150,538. Patterson showed only $5,639 in cash on hand and outstanding debts of $83,646 compared with $78,385 in cash on hand for Beam, who showed $72,500 in outstanding debts.
