Zschau Maintains Fund-Raising Edge Among Republican Senate Candidates

The latest federal campaign spending reports show that, by a large margin, Rep. Ed Zschau (R-Los Altos) continues to raise the most money in the Republican U.S. Senate race. Zschau raised $804,000 in the April 1-May 15 period.

So far, Zschau’s campaign has raised $2.4 million, more than any other candidate but well below the $4 million he had hoped to have in order to pay for the expensive television advertising that anchors his strategy.

Former television commentator Bruce Herschensohn of Los Angeles raised $335,000 during the six-week period, giving him $752,000 altogether.

Next was Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich, who raised $309,000 from April 1 to May 15 and has pulled in $1.4 million for the campaign so far. Rep. Bobbi Fiedler (R-Northridge) reported raising $137,000, giving her $1 million for the race; economist Arthur Laffer, $107,000 and $1.1 million; Assemblyman Robert Naylor of Menlo Park, $77,000 and $604,000, and state Sen. Ed Davis (R-Valencia), $57,000 and $600,000.

The man these candidates would like to face in November, Democratic Sen. Alan Cranston, reported raising $420,000 in the latest period, giving him a campaign total of $5 million.
