Baseball-Bat Plant Explodes; Two Dead
An explosion in an aluminum manufacturing plant in an industrial complex killed two persons and damaged four other buildings, officials said Tuesday.
Plastic-filled aluminum baseball bats manufactured by Airlite Aluminum Corp. exploded in the late Monday blast and “were shooting up like projectiles,” Capt. Michael DiSalvo of the Harrison Fire Department said.
The blast shattered windows throughout a nearby residential neighborhood, and about 500 residents were briefly evacuated. An investigation is under way.
