Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton thwarted former Gov. Orval E. Faubus’ comeback attempt, defeating the one-time segregationist in a Democratic primary, while another former governor, Frank White, won the Republican nomination and will face Clinton for a third time. In Kentucky, Louisville attorney Jackson M. Andrews won the Republican nomination to oppose Democratic Sen. Wendell H. Ford, and in Idaho, Connie Hansen failed in her bid for the GOP nomination for the House seat lost by her husband, George, after his felony conviction.
