A San Francisco police officer awaiting trial on charges of beating a prisoner has been charged with unlawful brutality in another case. Officer Michael Caplan is charged with felony assault by a police officer and inhumanity to a prisoner in each of the two unrelated cases. Caplan was arraigned in Municipal Court in the earlier case and pleaded innocent. Assistant Dist. Atty. George Beckwith, who is prosecuting Caplan in both cases, declined to comment further on the cases.
