Police searched today for the missing son of 1962 Nobel science laureate James Watson but reported no solid leads after an initial flurry of phone calls.

Police said they had received several calls since Wednesday when the family went public about their missing son, Rufus, 16. He left New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center in White Plains on Tuesday morning.

The family said the teen-ager was admitted to the hospital six months ago after he threatened to jump off the World Trade Center in Manhattan.

The elder Watson was awarded the Nobel Prize for helping discover the secret of life--the double helix through which deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA, replicates itself.
