West Los Angeles : Size of Office Complex Cut
The Los Angeles Planning Commission has approved a compromise plan reducing the Westwood Gateway II office project to 490,000 square feet from the 780,000 square feet originally proposed, city officials announced.
The compromise resulted from negotiations involving the city; the developer, Bren Investment Properties; and Friends of Westwood, a local group that opposed the original project because it would generate more traffic in an already-congested area just east of the San Diego Freeway.
The compromise was approved by the Planning Commission in a 4-0 vote last Thursday, allowing the developer to proceed with the project, said Ginny Kruger, planning deputy for Councilman Zev Yaroslavsky.
Westwood Gateway II is at the southwest corner of Sepulveda and Santa Monica boulevards. Tentative plans call for two towers of 15 and 18 stories. The project is across the street from Bren’s original Westwood Gateway, a 22-story office tower on the northwest corner of Sepulveda and Santa Monica boulevards.
