San Diego Roundup : Coronado Golf Fund-Raiser Set for Sunday

The Coronado branch of the American Cancer Society will host the eighth annual Coronado Benefit golf tournament Sunday at the Coronado Municipal Golf Course.

Individuals will compete from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and there will be a scramble for teams consisting of two men and two women from 12:30 to 6 p.m. A tax-deductible $25 entry fee is required; it does not include green fees or cart.

The tournament is offering $5,000 to the winner of a hole-in-one contest.

More than 100 bowlers are expected for a one-day event sponsored by Sports Unlimited at 1 p.m. Sunday at Clairemont Bowl. The top 32 finishers will earn prize money.

Top runners from throughout the world will compete in the Carlsbad 5,000 race Sunday at 9 a.m. The race will start and finish at Elm and State streets. Invitational competition will be preceded by a “People’s Race” at 7:45 a.m.

Scott Tinley, winner of the 1985 Hawaiian Ironman competition, has entered the San Diego Invitational Triathlon, which will be held June 8. The competition begins at Spanish Landing and ends at Seaport Village.
