A 21-year-old Van Nuys man who carried a business card describing himself as a “law-enforcement paramilitary survivalist” was in custody Monday after Los Angeles police found seven homemade explosive devices in his car and home, police said. Police would not further describe the explosives.

The man, Roozben Moabery, 21, was arrested on suspicion of possessing a destructive device and was being held in lieu of $60,000 bail at the West Valley police station in Reseda pending arraignment in Van Nuys Municipal Court.

Moabery was arrested Sunday after a sawed-off shotgun and several explosive devices were found in his car, which had been pulled over in Woodland Hills for a routine traffic violation, Officer Willy Wilson said. Moabery told police he was returning with the devices from a desert practice outing, Wilson said.

Police searched the man’s Sherman Way residence Sunday, discovered several more explosive devices and defused them, Wilson said. The Police Department’s Criminal Conspiracy Unit is investigating, he said.
