CENTER SETS DATES FOR POPS SERIES

Composer-conductor Henry Mancini, trumpeter-band leader Doc Severinsen and vocalist Mel Torme head the list of performers who will appear with the Orange County Pacific Symphony during the orchestra’s pops concert series at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in the 1986-87 season.

The 10-concert series will also feature composer-pianist Michel Legrand, conductor Lukas Foss and Shirley Jones in a Christmas concert.

The series opens Oct. 25, with Foss leading a “Bernstein on Broadway” program and continues with Mancini conducting a program of his compositions on Nov. 28 and 29; Jones on Dec. 19 and 20; Legrand conducting on Feb. 1; Severinsen March 20 and 21; Torme and another artist still to be announced in a Gershwin program on May 1 and 2.

Pacific Symphony music director Keith Clark will conduct the concerts with Torme.

Clark also will lead the orchestra in its regular 16-concert subscription series.
