Rifle Accident Hurts 2 at Airport
Two women suffered scratches today when a rifle accidentally discharged at LAX as a man who was going to carry the gun aboard a flight to San Jose checked to see whether it was loaded. Police said the man was examining the chamber of his Weatherby hunting rifle when he apparently chambered a round as he slid the bolt, triggering the rifle as he closed the lid of the gun’s carrying case.
The bullet embedded itself in a wall, but the women were struck by fragments of the carrying case. They suffered only minor scratches and were able to board their plane without delay. No charges will be filed in the case.
