La Mirada : Art Festival Will Go On
La Mirada has agreed to let the Festival of the Arts come under its liability insurance umbrella, avoiding the possibility that the annual art show might not go on this year.
City officials require $1 million in insurance coverage for events like the art festival. But organizers said that the best they could obtain was $300,000 in coverage, so the council agreed to make up the difference, providing a majority of the coverage under the city’s policy. The council can do that because the city is considered a co-sponsor of the event. This year, the council agreed to contribute $9,600 to help run the festival.
“This event is extremely important to the city,” said festival spokeswoman Sheila Krotinger, who predicted that at least 6,000 people will visit the art show this year. Several hundred artists are also expected to exhibit their work at the silver anniversary show which opens June 13 and runs through June 22 at the La Mirada Civic Theatre.
“This is the festival’s 25th year, and this community identifies with the festival. Thank goodness the show can go on.”
