Santa Ana : Juneteenth and Fair Scheduled This Month
Cultural displays, ethnic foods and sports exhibitions spanning an entire city block will be part of the city’s fifth annual Juneteenth Intercultural Fair on June 15, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The fair will be at the Corbin Community Center and Jerome Park, at McFadden and Center streets, according to Evelyn Colon-Becktel, community services coordinator at the center.
“Over the years, our Juneteenth Intercultural Fair has become a Santa Ana tradition we all enjoy,” Mayor Dan Griset said.
For the last five years, the fair has been a combination of Juneteenth and the Intercultural Fair. Juneteenth is a celebration of the emancipation of Texas blacks issued in June of 1865.
It is called that because “it’s celebrated sometime in the teens of the month,” Colon-Becktel said, adding that the Intercultural Fair is another city-sponsored cultural exchange.
Among other festivities will be gospel music by the Living Waters band and soloist Tananya Stanton, a Cambodian family of dancers, the Robert Williams jazz band, the Crusades drill team, boxing, soccer and volleyball games by youth teams in the city.
