Orange : Nonprofit Agencies Give Food to Needy Families

Share

Forty nonprofit agencies are giving away thousands of grocery packages to needy families in the county through the St. Vincent De Paul food distribution center in Orange.

Thanks to a grant of nearly $200,000 from the federal Emergency Management Agency, the nationwide philanthropic organization is distributing packages worth about $25 to agencies helping the poor, said Kelley Sullivan, program coordinator. Each package will produce about 10 meals, she said.

More than 13,000 packages remain to be given away, “but I guarantee you, they’ll all be gone” by Sept. 15, the last day of the program, Sullivan added.

To receive groceries, a family must meet federal poverty guidelines. Families can call the St. Vincent De Paul at (714) 771-1343 to find out if they qualify.
