San Diego
San Diego firefighters responded Wednesday morning to a chemical spill in the 8000 block of Arjons Drive in Mira Mesa.
Frank Hayes, 47, a driver for the Silver J. Express Corporation in San Dimas, was delivering chemicals and, upon arriving at Hybritech Inc., noticed chemicals leaking from his truck and a cloud of smoke in the cargo area.
Authorities said that a 5.3-gallon container of hydrochloric acid had been punctured, spilling the chemicals in the truck. The container was placed in a 50-gallon drum and will be disposed of.
As a precaution, 200 people were evacuated from the area. Three people, including Hayes and a firefighter, were treated at Scripps Memorial Hospital for minor inhalation and released.
