A federal grand jury in San Diego indicted the owner of surfboard businesses in Cardiff and Solana Beach on cocaine charges tied to a wide-ranging investigation of drug trafficking in Southern California. Gary Michael MacNabb, 34, of Carlsbad, was charged with conspiracy to possess cocaine with the intent to distribute it, illegal possession of the drug and using a telephone in drug transactions. He faces a maximum punishment of 49 years in prison and fines of $105,000 if convicted on all counts. MacNabb owns Nectar Surf and Sport Shop in Cardiff and Nectar Surfboards, which makes custom surfboards in Solana Beach. Federal investigators allege that the businesses were used to launder drug money. MacNabb is the 101st person indicted in the drug probe, which broke up a ring of smugglers and drug traffickers from South America, the South Pacific and six states. More than 60 defendants have pleaded guilty in the case.
