Carmel Mayor Clint Eastwood, whose bitter feud with city planners sparked his political career, has replaced four members of the seven-member commission with his own appointees. “He has done what he said he was going to do and a lot of people are happy about it,” said new appointee Fred Keeble, a retired architect. Eastwood chastised the old commission as “unfriendly” after it refused to allow him to build a retail-office complex last year. He sued the city but settled out of court. The battle led the actor to run for mayor. Other new appointees are Bill Brown, publisher of the Pine Cone weekly newspaper; Carla Ramsey, a real estate promoter, and Olof Dahlstrand, another retired architect. All were confirmed by the council.
