Writer Forman Brown Isn’t Resting in Peace

Share

“Forman Brown lives in Hollywood.” Is that all you can say in your editor’s note about this man? He belongs to the treasures of Los Angeles, although no longer able to perform as lyricist and accompanist/composer with his friends who comprised the Yale Puppeteers.

This group was uniquely talented, enchanting so many of us “Old Timers” in the ‘40s and ‘50s with their wit, inventiveness, their hand-made and very personable puppets, and their many delightful performances.

A few years ago, although in advanced retirement years, but none the worse for the passage of time, Forman Brown and his close friends of more than 50 years revived some of their acts for a rather select group of aficionados.

While it is inevitable that Father Time is calling up some of these gifted entertainers, it is remarkable that Forman Brown, at 85, undertakes with wit and some chagrin a challenge to the dragons of bureaucracy who fouled up his good credit and created a mess for this kindly, gentle man.

Who can straighten out the mess? How about the offices of either local so-called “public servants” or perhaps Mr. Brown’s congressman?
