The attempted theft of 350,000 lottery tickets from a courier’s truck in Whittier was foiled when the courier and his supervisor gave chase, apprehending a suspect and recovering the hijacked loot, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said. Deputies said the courier had gotten out of his truck to talk to a supervisor--who had been following him in a car--when Manuel Navarez, 37, of Los Angeles jumped into the truck and, using keys left in the ignition, drove away. Officers said the courier and supervisor, who were not identified, chased the truck for two miles in the supervisor’s car, forced the truck off the road and held Navarez until the arresting officer arrived.
