Fullerton : City Plans to Mark Its 100th Anniversary

A citywide picnic with fireworks and ostrich races will be part of the 1987 Fourth of July Fullerton Gold Extravaganza, one of several events scheduled for the city’s centennial.
To prepare for Fullerton’s 100th birthday, the City Council has approved:
Official centennial banners, flags, decals and stationery.
A centennial poster and photo contest.
The Fourth of July Fullerton Gold Extravaganza, featuring a picnic with with entertainment, food and ostrich races.
Ostrich farms once were a common site in the city during the era when women adorned their hats with ostrich feathers.
Officials already have been contacted by numerous service clubs and other groups interested in centennial activities, said Ronald E. Hagan, city community services director. Next month, Hagan’s department will begin accepting applications for officially sanctioned events.
