Kathy Ormsby, the champion collegiate distance runner who apparently tried to commit suicide last week, remains in serious condition at a hospital in Indianapolis.
Dale Ormsby, father of the 21-year-old, said his family has accepted the determination by doctors that Kathy will be permanently paralyzed from the chest down. Ormsby, a textile plant manager from Rockingham, N.C., said he and his wife will provide for her.
Ormsby, of North Carolina State, apparently jumped from a bridge about one-quarter mile from the site of the NCAA Track and Field Championships Wednesday night after dropping out of the 10,000-meter race.
