A Santa Clara County sheriff’s deputy injured in a shoot-out near Los Gatos died from his wounds, authorities said. Douglas Miller, 35, died after undergoing surgery at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose. He was wounded in the lower abdomen. The second deputy, Dennis Nixon, was treated for a bullet wound in his heel. Both officers were shot while trying to arrest Michael Stephens, 28, on suspicion of creating a family disturbance, a sheriff’s spokesman said. Stephens fired four shots from a gun he snatched from Nixon’s holster and was shot and killed by Deputy Bill Scott, the spokesman said.
