Reine J. Corbeil, a member of the South Coast Air Quality Management District board since 1978, has resigned because he said two business ventures may pose a conflict of interest. Corbeil, who was appointed by Los Angeles County Supervisor Peter F. Schabarum, has been replaced by Schabarum’s field deputy, Mark Volmert. The board sets and enforces air pollution control laws governing stationary sources in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. In a June 1 letter to Schabarum, Corbeil said that he was “contemplating” an investment in a crude oil production property and was joining a firm that manufacturers air pollution control devices.
