Torrance : Family Wins Award
Marine Col. William Sweeney, his wife, Ann, and eight of their 10 children were at the White House on Tuesday to receive one of six Great American Family Awards from Nancy Reagan.
The award, now in its fourth year, is given by the American Family Society, of which the First Lady is chairwoman.
Sweeney, a Torrance native and graduate of Torrance High School, is stationed in Subic Bay, Philippines. The Sweeneys have adopted seven children, most recently Michael, 7, a Philippine native now on his first visit to the United States.
