Two supporters of the Revolutionary Communist Party have been sentenced to jail for assaulting Los Angeles police officers during an April, 1982, demonstration in Hollywood that turned into a melee. Elizabeth Ortiz, 34, of Oakland and Cherene Lindley, 31, of Hawaii were recently convicted of misdemeanor assault charges in a seven-week trial in Los Angeles Superior Court. However, the jury dismissed felony charges of assaulting police officers with deadly weapons filed against five defendants, including Ortiz and Lindley. Ortiz was sentenced to 180 days in county jail; Lindley was ordered to serve 120 days.
