A former stunt woman who is now a quadriplegic was awarded $4.5 million today by a jury who found that her injuries on the set of the movie “Cannonball Run” were due largely to the negligence of director Hal Needham.

After five days of deliberation, the Los Angeles Superior Court jury found Needham was 65% responsible for the fiery 1980 collision that put Heidi von Beltz, 29, in a wheelchair. The panel assessed the damage from her injuries at $7 million, but felt that Von Beltz herself was 35% responsible for the accident.
