An environmental impact report on the proposed construction of a County Jail in Santee was put on hold temporarily Friday at the request of Supervisor George Bailey, whose district includes Santee.

Bailey said that since the county staff is now considering five other possible sites for a new jail to relieve overcrowding, “let’s not waste any more money on this (environmental impact report on the Santee site) until the evaluations on the other sites are done.”

Santee officials have complained they do not want to play host to a county jail, and Bailey characterized Friday’s action as putting the proposed Santee jail “on hold.”
