TV ACADEMIES LOOK AT MERGER

Share

The two national television academies, which divorced in 1977, have agreed to draw up a proposed constitution that could lead to their remarriage, officials said Monday.

The decision was made after a series of meetings about whether and how to bring together the Hollywood-based Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and the New York-based National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The Hollywood unit split from the other in 1977 over a dispute about how the organization was run.

The new constitution that now will be drafted will “set forth specific procedures and methods by which a reunified academy would operate,” executives from the two organizations said. It then will be subject to approval by the boards of both groups.
