Anaheim : Vendors Law Adoption Is Scheduled for July 1
To ensure that street vendors know about proposed regulations before they are implemented, the Anaheim City Council Tuesday moved final adoption of an ordinance banning push carts and regulating other street merchants to July 1.
The ordinance would ban push-cart vendors such as the paleteros , who sell ice cream bars ( paletas ) , a common sight during the summer.
The ordinance also would, among other things, regulate trucks selling vegetables, fruits and other goods by banning amplified music, horns or other sounds used to attract customers. The new law would affect more than 100 merchants--who predominantly are Latino and who work in Latino neighborhoods, and who also sell at offices and industrial sites.
While some residents have testified before the council that the vendors are a necessity, others have called them a nuisance, saying they create litter, noise and traffic congestion.
