Toddler’s New Heart Failing

LOMA LINDA, Calif. —
A Texas toddler who received a heart transplant fought for his life today after the newly implanted organ failed to work properly, spurring doctors to seek a second heart donor.
“Nicky’s condition is extremely critical,” Loma Linda University Medical Center spokeswoman Anita Rockwell said in a prepared statement. The 3-year-old, Nicky Carrizales of San Antonio, received the heart of a 2-year-old in a five-hour operation Tuesday night, according to his father.
