Alhambra : School Site Search Widened

Responding to opposition to proposed high school sites in Rosemead, the Alhambra High School District board has instructed its site-selection consultants to widen the search by looking at property throughout the district.

Supt. Bruce H. Peppin said the firm of Hopen, Hedlund & Darby Inc. should have preliminary findings in two or three weeks. He said the district needs 40 acres or more for a high school campus. Consultants will have freedom to look anywhere in the district, which serves students from Alhambra, Monterey Park, Rosemead and San Gabriel.

The same consultants earlier had focused their search in Rosemead and proposed several sites. The school board narrowed its choices to three sites, all of which aroused opposition from residents, the Rosemead City Council and the Garvey school board, which runs elementary schools in Rosemead and Monterey Park.
