A PAIR OF COOL LOVELIES

Share

Two very attractive new restaurants have opened in West Hollywood. Both are cool, tiled, airy and inexpensive. There, however, the similarities end.

La Fabula, 7953 Santa Monica Blvd., (213) 650-8517, has rustic tiles on the floor, lots of windows and a decor highlighted by white columns encircled by blue neon. The bartender turns out an extraordinary number of what he calls “wine Margaritas,” each vibrant drink topped with a slice of fruit. There’s also a lot of fruit in what was described to me as “upscale Mexican food.” If you’re the sort of person who likes the idea of pineapple in your quesadilla, this is the place for you.

The food at Primavera, 8701 Beverly Blvd., (213) 659-3051, is not nearly so experimental. This room has that Italian deli look--an open kitchen and black-and-white tiles everywhere. On the side is a very pretty enclosed patio. The menu is fairly familiar, filled with gourmet pizzas, simple pasta dishes and variety of salads. It is not food that demands a lot of attention, but the service is pleasant and the prices are right.
