Van Nuys Jail Inmate Hangs Himself on Telephone Cord
A 62-year-old inmate used a telephone cord to hang himself in the Van Nuys jail Thursday, Los Angeles police said.
The man, who was not identified, had been taken to the jail at 12:30 p.m. after being arrested in Van Nuys on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, Lt. Charles Higbie said.
At 3:33 p.m., he was found hanging from the cord of a mobile telephone that jailers wheel on a cart to inmates’ cells, Higbie said. Revival attempts failed.
