Simi Valley Man Goes on Rampage, Suddenly Dies

A Simi Valley man arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of drugs died early Saturday after collapsing while being transported by Simi Valley police to a Ventura hospital, police said.

Timothy Kevin Mansur, 29, was pronounced dead at Simi Valley Community Hospital about 4 a.m. Saturday, said Simi Valley Police Lt. Rick TerBorch. Mansur collapsed in the back of a patrol car while a Simi Valley police officer was taking him to Ventura County Medical Center.

Police were called to the Meadowbrook Apartments in the 1700 block of Cochran Street at 2:40 a.m. in response to several complaints from residents that a man was “running, yelling and screaming through the apartment complex,” TerBorch said.

When police arrived, three apartment residents were restraining Mansur. Even with their help, it took three officers to handcuff Mansur and place him in a patrol car, where he continued to kick at the car’s doors and windows, TerBorch said.

Officer Chris Ward, who was taking Mansur to the hospital, reported that he was westbound on Royal Avenue approaching Madera Road shortly after 3 a.m. when Mansur suddenly became quiet, TerBorch said.

Ward immediately stopped the car and, assisted by Officer Sterling Johnson and a nurse who happened to be passing by, gave Mansur cardiopulmonary resuscitation for about 10 minutes until an ambulance arrived.

An autopsy Saturday by the Ventura County coroner’s office was inconclusive.
