40 Arrested in Sepulveda Drug Crackdown

Los Angeles police arrested 40 people Saturday in a six-hour operation aimed at cracking down on drug sales along Blythe Street in Sepulveda.

Sgt. Robert Shallenberger said undercover officers watched from about 11 a.m. as a stream of people seeking to buy drugs drove or walked down the 14600 block of Blythe.

After watching a drug sale, police would arrest the buyer out of sight of the seller. Officers would then move in and arrest the drug dealer, Shallenberger said.

The suspected dealers, most of them men, were held on suspicion of various drug offenses at Van Nuys Jail. Most of the buyers were cited at the scene and released, Shallenberger said.

A small quantity of marijuana and cocaine was seized, Shallenberger said.
