Azumah Nelson of Ghana retained his World Boxing Council featherweight title Sunday by knocking out Danilo Cabrera of the Dominican Republic with 29 seconds left in the 10th round of a scheduled 12-round bout at San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Nelson, 28, caught the challenger with a hard right that sent Cabrera, 23, to the canvas, face down.
At the beginning of the 10th, Nelson pinned Cabrera in a corner and landed a series of punishing blows. Cabrera managed to slip out of the corner and down the ropes, but Nelson caught him with a booming right hand that ended the fight.
Nelson, 126, won his 24th fight against a single loss and scored his 19th knockout. Cabrera, 125, saw his record drop to 24-3-1.
