Prosecutor named judge: Kazuharu Makino, a nine-year veteran of the county district attorney’s office, was appointed by Gov. George Deukmejian on Tuesday to a judgeship in North Municipal Court in Fullerton. Makino, 34, a Democrat, said he was surprised but pleased by the appointment. He said he had only begun applying for a judgeship two years ago. Makino, who goes by the nickname Kaz, has been on the major fraud unit in the district attorney’s office. Makino fills the vacancy left by Wiilam F. McDonald, who was elevated to the Superior Court by Deukmejian earlier this year.
