Santa Ana : Actress to Be Saluted by Group Helping Parolees
A group of volunteers that has helped 140 juvenile offenders over the last four years will honor members and recognize actress Margaret Avery at a reception Thursday.
Volunteers in Parole, which finds individual counselors for young persons released from the California Youth Authority, will meet at the Saddleback Inn in Santa Ana.
Avery, best known for her role as Shug in the movie “The Color Purple,” will receive the group’s annual award for service to youth.
The county chapter is part of a statewide program designed to help youthful offenders readjust to the community. The group is supported by the state and Orange County bar associations and the California Youth Authority.
