The Rev. Jerry Falwell owes $5,000--plus $2,875 in lawyer’s fees--to homosexual activist and Baptist Minister Jerry Sloan for reneging on a public offer, a three-judge Superior Court panel decided. The judges, sitting in Sacramento, rejected Falwell’s appeal of a lower court order that Falwell, leader of the Moral Majority, pay Sloan the $5,000 he had offered if Sloan could prove he had ever said there would be rejoicing in heaven when the predominantly homosexual Metropolitan Community Church was annihilated. Sloan produced a tape, and Municipal Judge Michael Ullman ruled that Falwell owed the money. The $2,875 in lawyer’s fees was tacked on “for prosecuting this frivolous appeal.”
