Maywood : Garbage Fee to Increase
The City Council Tuesday approved a 40-cent increase in the cost of refuse collection for residents and property owners with six units or less.
Effective July 1, residents will pay $5.40 for garbage collection provided by Cudahy-based System Disposal Service Inc., said City Clerk Leonard Locher. The city pays the company an additional 70 cents per unit.
The company said it made the request after an increase in operational expenses, including a 27% increase in landfill charges. The company also asked to have its current contract, which expires Monday, extended for five years with annual rate adjustments. The council refused and instead approved a one-year contract, Locher said.
