Firm Fined for Spill: An Orange firm that paid $11,678 to city and county agencies to cover their costs of cleaning up a chemical spill Feb. 20 has also been ordered to pay a $5,000 fine. County prosecutors originally sought a $25,000 fine against Aerochem Ltd. for a sodium hydroxide spill at its plant at 1885 N. Batavia St., where the firm manufactures parts for the aerospace industry. Superior Court Judge Everett W. Dickey imposed a $5,000 fine on Aerochem, noting that the firm had voluntarily reimbursed police agencies for the cleanup and had installed equipment at the plant to protect against future spills. As part of the settlement filed in court Wednesday, Aerochem did not admit any guilt in the incident.
