TREKKIE TRIVIA

Share

Rumors were flying about “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home” (coming in December) at the recent Star Trek 20th-anniversary bash sponsored by Starlog magazine. Known for certain: The Enterprise crew goes back in time to present-day San Francisco where they meet up with a marine biologist (Catherine Hicks). Their mission: to solve a 23rd-Century problem with a 20th-Century solution.

Now, the speculation:

Whales somehow figure into the story line (“Star Trek” stars were evasive, but a tiny whale patch was glimpsed on a film-crew jacket).

Mr. Spock may need advice from Dr. Spock: Could Lt. Saavik, the half-Romulan, half-Vulcan (female) lieutenant from the Grissom be pregnant by Spock after being sequestered with him on the planet Genesis while he went through pon farr (the Vulcan male rutting cycle that occurs every seven years)?

And will the USS Enterprise be revived by some manipulation of time? Rebuilt? The stars were again evasive, though in an earlier interview, director/co-star Leonard Nimoy admitted, “If we can revive Spock, we can do something for the Enterprise!”
