A NEW HISTORIC LANDMARK : THE AMELIA M. EARHART LIBRARY IN NORTH HOLLYWOOD

The Los Angeles City Council on Friday declared the public library in North Hollywood Park a historic and cultural monument. It was built in 1929, one year after Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. The designation, often granted to preserve threatened structures, in the library’s case was requested by the Los Angeles Conservancy to recognize the building’s historic significance. The Recreation, Library and Cultural Affairs Committee of the City Council called the gracious Spanish Colonial Revival structure “an important center of cultural activity in the San Fernando Valley.”
