A mistrial was declared in the trial of Donald Kreiss, who is charged with soliciting former professional football player Ernie Holmes to murder wealthy businessman George Patarias Huck. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Ernest Hiroshige excused the jury--which had been selected over a four-day period--and ordered selection of a new jury, because Holmes, who was the prosecution’s first witness, accidentally violated a court order that the jury not be told that Huck is dead. Huck, 46, a Greek immigrant, was shot to death in front of his Mt. Olympus home Aug. 22, 1984. No one has ever been charged with the murder.
