Shoemaker Rides Epidaurus to Hollywood Park Win
Heavily favored Epidaurus, ridden by Bill Shoemaker, won the $25,000 feature race by a head Wednesday at Hollywood Park.
Mane Magic, ridden by Alex Solis, finished second, a nose in front of My Gallant Game, ridden by Corey Black.
Epidaurus was timed in 1:09 2/5 for the six furlongs and paid $3.60, $3.20 and $2.40. Mane Magic returned $4.40 and $3. My Gallant Game paid $2.60 to show.
Carrying 119 pounds, Epidaurus battled Mane Magic, also carrying 119, for the lead around the far turn. My Gallant Game, carrying 112, moved up three-wide into the stretch to join the leaders.
The threesome battled to the wire before Epidaurus nosed ahead at the finish.
