U.S. Support for S. Africa

Share

How long will the American people continue to tolerate a government that holds power by denying the right of the majority of its people to vote, that silences political opposition by imprisoning its leader, that denies freedom of the press and of speech and that jails religious leaders who dare protest?

Must we impotently sit by and watch a repressive, totalitarian state murder its own people and destroy their property, subvert its neighbors and, indeed, engage in military adventures that violate other nations’ borders?

America’s very existence is jeopardized by this evil empire. We cannot permit the brave opposition to be systematically crushed. We must support the anti-government forces in their struggle by providing them with both military and non-lethal materiel. To do less is to abandon the principles for which so many unselfish, brave Americans have laid down their lives.

True, the logistics of supplying the South African freedom fighters presents a significant problem but I have every confidence that this Administration can work it out, given its uncompromising dedication to freedom everywhere.
