NOT-SO ‘WEE WILLIE’

A note of correction to Cecil Smith and his piece on the notorious Shirley Temple “libel” by Graham Greene. . . . (“The ‘Lolita’ Libel Case,” June 22).
“Wee Willie Winkie” was far from John Ford’s worst picture: It was, and still is, an engaging, amusing Hollywood adventure, done with charm and outstanding craftsmanship. It certainly wasn’t shot “mostly in the dark,” but, on the contrary, was beautifully lit by Arthur Miller, the fine cameraman who later shot “Tobacco Road” and “How Green Was My Valley” for Ford.
Graham Greene’s piece was clever, silly and off-the-mark. Cecil Smith likewise.
